FREMONT — A man who police say tried to burn down an elderly woman’s home, days after he had vandalized the same property, has been charged with burglary and arson.
Police say Hector Molina, 32, on Thursday broke into the home of a woman whose property he had vandalized just days earlier in the Brookvale neighborhood.
The first incident took place May 17, when a woman found that someone had vandalized her front door with a hatchet and broke a window.
On May 20, the victim said, she arrived home and was told by her elderly grandmother that she heard noises in the attached garage around noon. When the victim went to check the garage, she found the side garage door had been kicked in and a box had been set on fire inside, police said.
The fire inside the box had burned itself out before it could ignite the garage or any other property on fire.

The woman reviewed footage from a surveillance camera at her home, police said, spotting a man on her property walking toward the side garage door shortly before noon. Police said the man was also later seen leaving the victim’s driveway on a bike.
